Tips for Boa Vista Island

All the information you want to know before arriving

How to arrive at Boa Vista

Boa Vista Island is served by a growing number of international charter and scheduled flights from several European countries, with connections that vary according to the season.

Within Cabo Verde, Boa Vista is connected to the other islands by domestic flights operated

by Cabo Verde Airlines, and by ferries run by CVinterilhas.

Because flight schedules are updated frequently, for the most up-to-date international flight information, we recommend checking the official Cabo Verde Airports website.

Of course, you are always welcome to contact us — our team will be happy to help you find the best travel options to reach Boa Vista.

USEFUL INFORMATION BEFORE ARRIVAL

PASSPORT VALIDITY:

Passports must be valid for at least six months beyond the date of your planned departure from Cabo Verde.

TOURIST VISA REQUIRED:

Citizens of many countries — including most EU member states, the UK, the United States, Canada and Brazil — do not require a visa for tourist stays of up to 30 days. However, visa requirements depend on your nationality, and travellers from other countries may still need to obtain a visa either in advance at a Cape Verdean embassy or consulate, or on arrival directly in the airport, depending on bilateral agreements. [See List]

AIRPORT SECURITY FEE:

All foreign citizens planning to travel to Cabo Verde are required to complete a pre-arrival registration and pay the Airport Security Fee (TSA) at the online electronic platform  [EASE] at least five days prior to entering Cabo Verde.

The official currency of Cape Verde is the Cape Verdean Escudo (CVE). The exchange rate is fixed at 1 Euro = 110.265 CVE.

We recommend travelling with Euros, which are widely accepted across the island and can easily be exchanged for local currency at banks. As Cape Verde is not part of the European Union, Euros cannot be issued locally, but they are commonly accepted as a means of payment.

When paying directly in Euros, the usual conversion rate applied is 1 Euro = 100 CVE. To make the most of the official exchange rate, we recommend exchanging part of your money into CVE at a bank at the beginning of your stay.

Local banks are open from Monday to Friday, from 8:00 am to 3:00 pm. A valid passport is required for currency exchange.

Cash withdrawals in CVE are available with Visa and MasterCard at banks and ATMs, which operate 24 hours a day.

In Cape Verde, the climate is dry tropical. Temperatures are high throughout the year, with minimum temperatures reaching 24°C in January/February and maximum temperatures reaching 30°C in August /September. The rains are scarce throughout the year, the rainfall reaches a maximum of 80 mm per month and the higher winds are between January and May. Larger waves can be found on some parts of the island, which proves particularly popular with water sport enthusiasts.

TRADITION AND GASTRONOMY

Cape Verde was a Portuguese colony and has been independent since 1975. Over the centuries, the islands became a meeting point of African and European cultures, giving rise to a unique and vibrant Creole identity. Today, this cultural fusion is reflected in the country’s traditions, cuisine, music and way of life.

Taste traditional dishes such as catchupa and cuscuz, listen to a soulful morna — made famous by artists like Cesária Évora — and, if you have the chance, join a local festival such as Santa Isabel, where you can watch traditional boat regattas and dance to the rhythm of drums during the São João celebrations.

We love sharing our favourite tips with our guests to help them experience the true Cape Verdean lifestyle.
